Scribe is an audio VST plugin that converts sound to midi. It was originally designed because I wanted to have a midi conversion VST in Ubuntu Studio.
Scribe just uses a bit of linear algebra, and it gets impressive performance in spite of its simplicity.
Vorchestra is a set of wavetables consisting of single cycle waveforms from a variety of instruments. By switching to a single cycle, the table can be treated as an object that is a function of frequency instead of a function of time. As a consequence, they also create a more natural sound that mimics the frequency response of the source instrument. Here’s a how-to guide.
